Peggy Weinzetl

Peggy Lynn Weinzetl, age 66 of Topsham, Maine, passed away peacefully from cancer with her husband, Tim holding her hand on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.  Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 10 at United Methodist Church in Tracy. Interment was in the Tracy City Cemetery. Peggy was born on September 5, 1951 in Slayton, Minnesota.  She is the daughter of James and Wava Vickerman.  Peggy was baptized at the Garvin Congregational Church in Garvin, MN.  She was confirmed and was a member of Tracy United Methodist Church in Tracy, MN.  She was Salutatorian for the Tracy High School Class of 1969.  She was also Miss Tracy Princess of the same year.  Peggy graduated from Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Minor in French.

Peggy was united in marriage to Timothy George Weinzetl on June 16, 1973 at Tracy United Methodist Church in Tracy, MN.  Her marriage was blessed by a son, Aaron James.  Peggy was fortunate to live in Iceland and the Azores and other states before settling in Maine, due to her husband’s Navy career.  Peggy’s relationship with Aaron was even more cherished due to Tim’s deployments.  While in Maine, Peggy worked in a Daycare Center and eventually started a home daycare which she operated for 25 years.  This was a passion of hers and she continued to keep in contact with many of the children’s families.  She was fortunate enough to also watch her beloved granddaughter, Illyana for five years.  Peggy was an active member of the Brunswick United Methodist Church.  She served as Education chair, taught Sunday school, and was most recently the church librarian.  She loved to serve at the church suppers and Christmas fairs.  Peggy was a Maine State Music Theater Angel which she cherished, and recently served as its treasurer. She was also active in the Adopt an Intern Program.

Peggy was so talented at making crafts of all kinds, including weaving baskets, quilting, rugs, sewing and other handiwork.  She loved spending time with her son’s family, taking trips to Northern Minnesota to fish at the family’s cabin but mostly loved traveling the world with her husband Tim.  In 2017, they visited six continents, leaving only Antarctica as a future goal.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Tim Weinzetl of Topsham, Maine; son, Aaron James and daughter-in-law, Catherine; and her granddaughter, Illyana of Acworth, Georgia.  She is also survived by her parents, James and Wava Vickerman of Tracy, MN; and sisters, Karen (Steve) Halter of Oak Grove, MN, and Jill (Patrick) Jopp of Elk River, MN; brothers, Steve (Pat) of Tracy, MN, and Kent (Julie) Vickerman of Big Lake, MN.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as great nephews and nieces.

Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Scott Vickerman; and her brother-in-law, Tom Weinzetl.
