Robert Edward McCoy was born on June 26, 1928, in Tracy, MN, to John and Mary Ellen (Neilon) McCoy and went to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in Burnsville, MN, at the age of 92 years.
Bob grew up on his parent’s farm in Tracy, MN, and was engaged in farming from an early age. He graduated from Tracy High School, and served in the US Army and trained as a medic, being honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class in May, 1962. He returned to farm with his father, later taking over the operation and expanding it through the years. He married the love of his life, Nora Marie Dardis, on September 18, 1954, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie. Bob and Nora were blessed with nine children who grew up surrounded by love and an abundance of work and activities on the farm and in the community. Through the years Bob farmed the land and raised cattle and hogs. He encouraged all the kids to be active in school activities, sports and 4H, and had a special eye for picking out the prize-winning entrants at the county fair. He loved his horses and made sure there was always one around to ride until all the kids were grown. As he began to see retirement on the horizon, he transitioned to a new career by gaining his real estate license and creating McCoy Appraisal Services.
Bob was a lifetime member of St Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a 67-year member of the American Legion. His life was full between farming, raising a large family, helping others where needed, and being a part of the Tracy community.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nora, and nine children: Marlene (Jerry) Martinek of Burnsville, Mike (Amy) of Tracy, John (Theresa) of Marshall, Julie (Jim) Louwagie of Apple Valley, Karen McCoy (Jim) of Maple Grove, Paul of Oakdale, Pat (Mary) of Victoria, Kathy (Keith) Hocker of Norman, OK, and Jenny (Brian) Pauly of Maple Grove, along with 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen Kuettle, St. Paul, and Dorothy Cain, Tracy, and sisters-in-law, Alita Lenertz, Tracy, and Theresa Dardis, Tea, SD, and brother-in-law, Norbert (Delores) Dardis of Annandale, along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, John, sister, Anna Mae Mickelson, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held at White Funeral Home in Apple Valley followed by a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tracy, and interment in the church cemetery.
