John Eugene Thon, age 76 of Maplewood, MN passed away at home on June 16, 2021. John was born to Delpha and Frank Thon on May 18, 1945 in Tracy, MN. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. He spent his summers with his grandparents on their farm near Garvin, MN. He graduated from Mankato State College with a BS in Medical Technology and later earned a MA in Health and Human Services Administration at Saint Mary’s College, Winona, MN.
He was united in marriage to Virginia Good on June 14, 1969 in El Dorado Springs, MO. They lived on the family farm in Garvin, MN for 18 years, then moved to New London, MN where he was the lab director at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. After retiring, they moved to Maplewood, MN. He enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool with his buddies at The Resort in Mesa, AZ where they had a winter home, but mainly he enjoyed telling stories and entertaining his five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, daughter Jennifer (Pat) Kolb, son Brian (Rochelle) Thon, five grandchildren Andrew and Jeremy Kolb, Emily, Adam and Katie Thon, and siblings Neil (Lois) Thon and Barbara (Bob) Raudenbush as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was held Friday, June 25th at Beaver Lake Lutheran Church, 2280 Stillwater Ave E. Maplewood, MN. Memorial service was held on Saturday, June 26th at Beaver Lake Lutheran Church with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal, MN.
