Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Krogman, 92

Elizabeth “Betty” Frances (Freetly) Krogman was born on Nov 28, 1930, on a farm near Fulda, Minnesota to Glen and Anna (Baumgartner) Freetly. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. She attended St. Gabriel School through eighth grade and graduated from Fulda High School in 1948. Betty had the honor of being Fulda’s first Homecoming Queen. After graduation, she worked for Interstate Power in Fulda, then moved to MPLS and worked in office administration.

Betty and Anthony “Corky” Krogman were married on December 28, 1953, at the Basilica of St Mary’s in Minneapolis, and they raised four sons and three daughters together. They lived in Crystal, MN until 1973, when they moved to Russell, MN. Betty began working at RSVP of Lyon County. Her career spanned decades with Region VIII North Welfare, and she retired as a child support officer in 1995 yet continued to enjoy get-togethers with her co-workers.

Betty was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and attended Mass daily. She was an active member of CCW and CDA, and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. Betty loved volunteering at Holy Redeemer Church and School, Prairie Home Hospice, and Avera Marshall Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She brought communion to the sick, read books to children at school, assisted with Red Cross Blood drives and spent endless hours tying quilts for the circle of love, as well as many other acts of kindness.

Betty and Corky had the opportunity to travel in their retirement. Betty felt you should go while you are still healthy. They visited Nova Scotia, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, China, Italy, and Mexico.

Betty and Corky moved to Marshall, MN in 2006 where Betty had the opportunity to meet new neighbors and pass out her famous chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes. She took great pleasure in watching and participating in the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was a very special person and universally loved and admired by all who had the pleasure to know her. She was strong in faith and taught generations what it meant to be a good person. She led first with love and kindness and modeled a family first life to all around her. She had a long and fruitful marriage to Corky, brought seven children into this world, and loved each of them, their spouses, her grandchildren, her grandchildren’s spouses, and her great grandchildren with her whole heart. Betty’s loss is felt through anyone who had the honor to know her. She is surely going to be met with open arms at the Golden Gates of Heaven.

Betty passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at her home in Marshall surrounded by Family. Betty is survived by her children, Kevin (Terry) Krogman, Maple Lake, MN, Karen Kaas, Marshall, MN, Diane Marsh, Ramsey, MN, Carol (Jeff) Chandler, Balaton, MN, Bob (Tami) Krogman, Owatonna, MN, Joe (Jan) Krogman, Marshall, MN, and daughter-in-law Deb Krogman, Chaska, MN, 19 grandchildren Tom (Alecia), Tara (Per), Troy (Gayle), Anna (Bryan), Diana (Rob), Liz (Spencer), Jesse (Adam), Kyle (Jenny), Kayla (Jamie), Gregory, Christopher, Ashton (Matt), Brandon, Alex (Erica), Taylor, Jon, Jordan (Jaci), Rick, Adam,  27 great-grandchildren; Emma, Abbie, Brady, Ben, Natalie, Olivia, Drew, Brayden, Colton, Cami, Nolan, Owen, Christian, Dominic, Jayden, Genevieve, Jameson, Logan, Brendan, Carter,  Finnegan, Weston, Emerick, Brylnee, Desi, Silas, and Finley, siblings; Jerry Freetly, Rochester, MN, Shirley Benson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Bob (Georgia) Freetly, Farmington, MN, Kay (Clyde) VanOort, Lindstrom, MN, and sister-in-law, Arlene Freetly, Kerkhoven, MN and many nieces and nephews.
