Beverly Ann (Johns) Ludeman, 93, of rural Minnesota Lake, died on December 10, 2022 at Mapleton Community Home.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 11 a.m. at Nasinec Funeral Home (789 Business Park Dr., Wells, MN 56097). Beverly was born on October 2, 1929 to Herbert and Neva (Meinzer) Johns at her maternal grandmother’s home near Amiret, MN.
Beverly attended Tracy schools and graduated from the Mankato School of Beauty Culture in 1947 as a licensed beautician. She was crowned “Miss Tracy” in 1948. Beverly married Loren G. Ludeman on October 6, 1948 in Tracy, MN. She often said marrying Loren was the best decision of her life. They farmed near Walnut Grove for two years before moving to their current farm near Waldorf, MN. Beverly was a partner in the farm business, helping in the fields, tending a large garden, and raising four children. She was a devoted member of Zoar United Church of Christ in Waldorf. Beverly was also a member of the Up ’N Comin’ home extension club, and a dedicated volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Beverly loved people and was always interested in the activities and welfare of friends, relatives, and anyone else she knew. But beyond that, Beverly remembered and honored people by sending birthday cards and her famous two-dollar bills to commemorate those lives. She didn’t just send cards to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also to nephews, nieces, and their children, their grandchildren, and many friends. Every spring about two weeks before Memorial Day, she would travel to cemeteries from Waldorf and Wells to Tracy and Marshall. There she walked the uneven grounds through her 90th year to place flowers on the graves of relatives, friends, and sometimes other people she just thought had been forgotten. When asked why she made the extraordinary effort, she said it was something her mother and grandmother had done, usually with flowers from their own gardens and still calling it Decoration Day.
Beverly was an avid reader, quilter and seamstress, gardener, and an outstanding cook and baker. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and tapping her toes to all kinds of music, but especially country music. She was known for her huge heart, hospitality, and sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin on Reed’s Lake. Beverly was an exceptional homemaker and mother, creating a loving and supportive environment for her family. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan, attending countless academic, arts and athletic events over the years, and cheering them on when they were presented with new opportunities and endeavors.
Left to cherish Beverly’s memory is the family she loved and devoted herself to. Children: Larry (Sharon Larson) Ludeman of Minneapolis; Linda (Joe) Kluender of Broomfield, CO; Layne Ludeman of rural Minnesota Lake; and Lance (Joanne) Ludeman of Maple Valley, WA. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Gregory (Nanako) Ludeman and daughter Lana; Kelsey Ludeman; Elissa Ludeman; Shea (Dave Nachtweih) Kluender and daughters Zadie, Lia and Violet; Kala (Blake McDonald) Kluender; Brent (Christina) Ludeman and children Jack, Duke, and Emma; Sarah (Kyle) Stokes and son Logan; Ryan Ludeman; and nieces and nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loren, brother Joe Johns, nephew Paul Ludeman, and niece LoAnn (Johns) Dale.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at Mankato Clinic, Mayo Health System Mankato, Mapleton Community Home, and Heritage Place Apartments for the wonderful care and comfort that was provided to Beverly during the last few years.
