Mary Zeug, 90

Mary AuDella (Tompkins) Zeug died Wednesday, October 18, at her home in Sartell, surrounded by her children and hospice family. She was 90 years old. Mary died from complications related to adult muscular dystrophy, which she lived with for the past four decades. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, October 24 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell.

She was born in Fairview Township, Clay County, near Vermillion, South Dakota, on October 8, 1916. She moved to Morton, Minnesota with her family in 1933, and graduated from Morton High School in 1934.

On January 16, 1939, she married Joseph B. Zeug of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and they farmed the Zeug Farm north of Walnut Grove until Joe’s death in 1984. She moved to Sartell with her daughter, Mary Theresa, in 1992. While living near Walnut Grove, Mary was active in the Home Extension Study Groups of Redwood County, and the Altar Society of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy, Minnesota. She was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years.

She is survived by a sister, Merron (Tompkins) Gullickson of Walnut Grove, a sister-in-law, Audrey Tompkins of Mankato, and one hundred decedents including 36 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Her living children include Donald (Alice) Zeug of Lucan, Robert (Marjorie) Zeug of Milroy, Deanna (Roger) Coudron of Marshall, Mark (Helene) Zeug of Honolulu, Mary Theresa Zeug of Sartell, Grant (Linda) Zeug of Willmar, Ruth Ann (Ronald) Schommer of Johnstown, Colorado, Margaret (Murph) McKenzie of Forest Lake, and Douglas (Doris) Zeug of Lucan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Colleen in 1964, sisters Hazel Tompkins and Edna Hensley, and brother Glen Tompkins, and four grandchildren.

Interment and graveside service was at the Milroy Cemetery. The Dingman Family Funeral Home of Sauk Rapids handled the arrangements.

The family requests that any memorials be made to Heartland Hospice in St. Cloud, or to Breast Cancer Research.
