Jessie Mercie, 27

Jessie J. Mercie age 27 of Vesta, MN died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Sanford-Tracy Area Medical Center in Tracy, MN. Services were held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Tracy Alliance Church. Interment will be at a later date. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.

Jessie James Mercie was born March 11, 1985 to Lonnie and Donna (Guza) Mercie in Marshall, MN. He was dedicated to the Lord as a baby and rededicated to Jesus on January 3, 2012.

He attended grade school in Milroy, MN and later high school in Marshall. After school he moved into Milroy, MN and over the years worked several jobs in the area. His last employment was as an elevator maintenance man for CHS in Marshall.

He was a current member of the Believer’s Church in Marshall. He enjoyed sports cars, electronic gaming and will always be remembered for his kindness and tender hearted spirit. As a result of his illness Jessie became a patient of Sanford-Tracy Medical Center, where he died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the age of 27.

Jessie is survived by his parents, Lonnie and Donna Mercie of Vesta, MN; two sisters, Lacie Jae (Jared) McChesney of Russell, MN and Emmie Lou Mercie of Ghent, MN; two nieces, Jayda McChesney and Ava Mercie; two nephews, Aiden and Jedadia McChesney; his paternal grandmother, Frances Mercie of Marshall, MN; his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Guza of Minneota, MN; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

His paternal and maternal grandfather’s, George Mercie and Joe Guza and one uncle, Jerry Mercie preceded him in death.

Gloria Zabel, 70

Gloria J. Zabel age 70, of Tracy, MN died Tuesday January 29, 2013 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Services were held Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Balaton, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.

Gloria Jane Zabel was born May 29, 1942 to Phil and Eldora (Stebritz) Chase in Algona, IA. She attended school in Howard, SD and Fairmont, MN, before graduating from Howard High School. She received further education in Early Childhood Associates Development Certification and worked for WCA-Head Start for twenty nine years. She then also worked for HIS in Tracy, MN for another eight years.

On October 13, 1962 Gloria married Vernon Zabel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. They made their home on the family farm near Garvin, MN and to this union four children were born, Ardis, Richard, and twins, Joel and Jane. In 2002 they moved into Tracy and as Vernon’s health failed, Gloria was a loving care giver to her husband for many years.

She was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church and was very active in the church women’s groups, taught Sunday School, served on several boards, helped with many smorgasbords and pot luck meals, and enjoyed quilting with the ladies on Do-Days. She and her husband also were involved in 4-H and managed the Lyon County 4-H Food Stand for two years, while their children were active in 4-H. Gloria also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, doing crossword puzzles, bible studies and attending church activities.

In August of 2012 Gloria became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, where she was received into heaven peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the age of 70.

Gloria is survived by her mother, Eldora Chase of Pipestone, MN; two daughters, Ardis (Robert) Baumgartner of Lynd, MN and Jane (Charles) Sabinske of Walnut Grove, MN; two sons, Richard (Annette) Zabel of Pierre, SD and Joel (Mary) Zabel of Garvin, MN; six grandchildren, Susan (Dylan) Dowling of Murdo, SD, Jeremy and Robert Zabel and Misty Scott all of Pierre, SD, Joel Aaron Zabel of Garvin, MN and Rheanne Sabinske of Walnut Grove, MN; two great grandchildren, Ella Nora Zabel Dowling and Kendall Vernon Dowling, both of Murdo, SD; one sister, Carol (Kenneth) Thompson of Galena Park, TX; two nephews, Brandon Richards of Galena Park, TX and Travis Thompson of Pierre, SD; many cousins and friends.

Her husband, Vernon, his father, Phil Chase, maternal grandparents, Sandy (Anna) Stebritz, praternal grandparents, Christian (Rosa) Chase, father and mother-in-law, Walter (Mabel) Zabel, one brother-in-law, Bruce Richards and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, preceded her in death.
