Marvin Rialson, 94

 

Marvin K. Rialson, age 94, of Tracy, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at his residence with his family by his side.  Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy.   Interment was in the Rialson Cemetery.   Online condolences may be placed at www.almliefh.com.  The Almlie – Horvath Funeral Home of Tracy is caring for the family.

Marvin Kenneth Rialson was born in Tracy, Minnesota on September 5, 1920 to John and Hattie (Holm) Rialson and shortly after the family moved to a farm near Tracy.  He attended school in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School and Tracy Junior College. 

On October 2, 1949, He and Arlene Holznagel were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy.  They lived on the home farm until 1958 when they moved to the Garvin area.  In 1963, they purchased a farm near Garvin where they resided until 1989 when they moved to Tracy. 

Marvin was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy and as a lifelong member, he held several offices on the church council.  He was engaged in farming and also went to work for the A.S.C.S. Office in Marshall in 1961.  In 1964, he joined the staff of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and was a district inspector for the Agronomy Services Division until he retired in 1990. 

At the age of 27, Marvin was elected clerk of Monroe Township, a position he held until he moved out of the Township.  He served on the Tracy Elevator Board as a member and president for several years.  He also served as member and president of the Lyon County Fair Board for 27 years.  He was president of the Lyon County Farmers Union for several years and served two terms on the Lyon County Extension Board.  Marvin was also an active member of the Tracy Lions Club and after moving to Tracy, he was elected to the city council in 1994 and served two terms.

Besides traveling, reading, and playing cards, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and helping his sons’ farm.  He was proud to have never missed a Box Car Day Parade.

On Wednesday, November 26, 2014, Marvin passed away at his home with his family by his side at the age of 94.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Rialson of Tracy; children, John Rialson of Cottonwood and his children, Wendy (Cade)Cradduck, Jim (Jennifer) Rialson, and Tony (Ashley) Rialson, Lyn (Barry) Bakker of Willmar and their children, Tim (Lisa) Bakker, and Kelly (Nate) Ziemann, and Bob Rialson of Garvin and his children, Kari (Andy) Wilkison, Gretchen Rialson, and Kevin Rialson; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Ingebretson of Appleton, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Julius Rialson, two sisters, Margrethe Helgeson, and Louella Helgeson, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Rialson.
