Gwen Bruns, age 87, of Lucan and rural Milroy, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at her daughter’s home. Memorial Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lucan. Visitation will be held before the service, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan.
Gwendolyne Norcutt was born on October 22, 1929, on the family farm in rural Lucan, Minnesota. She was one of 12 children born to Leslie and Edna (Weikert) Norcutt. Gwen was baptized as an infant and later confirmed on July 9, 1944, in the Christian faith. She grew up in Lucan, attended Lucan schools and graduated from Milroy High School with the class of 1947. After high school, Gwen worked at the Lucan grocery store.
On October 20, 1951, Gwen was united in marriage to Virgil “Bud” Bruns at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. The couple made their home in Lucan and Gwen worked at the Post Office there, eventually serving as Postmaster. Gwen and Bud shared 44 years of marriage together and raised 4 children, Cindy, Dean, Doug, and Sheila. Gwen retired after 44 ½ years with the United States Postal Service.
Gwen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Her enjoyments in life included cooking, baking, flower gardening, crocheting, and making many quilts. She always kept a tidy house and enjoyed spending time with her family. She passed away on July 25, 2017, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 3 days. She will be dearly missed.
Gwen is survived by her children, Cindy Petersen of Milroy, Dr. Dean Bruns (and Deb) of Marshall; daughter-in-law, Eva Bruns of Lynd; 6 grandchildren, Leslie (and John) Murphy of Pierre, SD, Nathan Petersen of Milroy, Seth (and Melissa) Bruns of Marshall, Stacy (and Zach) Olson of Marshall, Zach (and Brittany) Bruns of Burnsville, Cody Bruns (Rebecca Fedde) of Tracy; 3 great-grandchildren, Maci, Olivia, Octavia; 9 siblings; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Les and Edna Norcutt; husband, Bud Bruns; son, Doug Bruns, daughter, Sheila Bruns; and son-in-law, Steve Petersen.
