Donald Wayne Jasperson, 85, passed away at Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home on Oct. 9, 2017. Funeral services were held at Good Shepard Free Lutheran Church of Cokato, with interment at the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Jasperson was born Nov. 11, 1931 to Harold and Evelyn (Helgemo) Jasperson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Tracy. He was one of two people in his confirmation class to profess his faith in front of the congregation.
He was from Tracy High School in 1949 and was married to Nancy Whipple on July 30, 1950. They raised four children: Terri, Donna, David, and Molly.
Don worked for J C Penny in Tracy, LeMars, IA, and was transferred to Marshall, MN where he became the assistant manager. In 1968, the family moved to Appleton, MN where he became the manager. He and Nancy owned and operated Jasperson’s Department Store in Appleton for several years. In 1982 they moved to Glencoe, MN where Don was the Executive Director of the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce.
On Oct. 6, 1990, Don was united in marriage to Barbara Shipp Bruns, in Glencoe. Don loved fishing and dreamed of living on a lake so when he retired, they sold their house and lived by the lake near Cokato during the summer and spent many winters in Arizona. In 2013 they moved to Dassel.
Throughout the years, Don was an active church member as a Sunday School teacher and usher, and he was also a Cub Scout leader. He was a member of Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Terri Ebert, Luverne, MN, David (Jan) Jasperson, Rochester, MN, and Molly (Kurt) Schmidt, of Stewartville, MN, grandchildren, Jeff Barney, of Minneapolis, MN, Leah (Ryan) Frantzen, Langley, Mirren, and Cohen, of Woodbury, MN, Katie (Matt) Mostad, Charlie and Ingrid of Luverne, MN, Sarah (Paul) Zebe, Daphne and Gage, Adrian, MN, Amanda (Eric) Lammert, Luverne, MN, Emily Jasperson, Rochester, MN, Stephanie and Luke Schmidt, Stewartville, MN, Barbara’s children, Terri (DeWayne) Hanson, of Glencoe, MN, Randy (Charlotte) Bruns, of Glencoe, MN, and Lisa (Brian) Hayes, of St Louis Park, MN, and their children and grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Irene Jasperson, and his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy, his daughter, Donna Barney, his parents, and his brother, Bernard Jasperson.
