Memorial Service for Clarence “ Lindy” Lindberg Haugen was at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Len Halverson officiating. The organist was LaDean Lang with special music by Cheri Paulsen. Interment will be private.
Clarence Haugen was born on July 26, 1927 on the family farm near Tracy, Minnesota to George and Christine Tusty Haugen. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Lindy worked with his father and brothers on the family farm until starting work at the Ruthenbeck and Craig Implement dealer in Tracy. Lindy served in the Minnesota National Guards. In 1946 he and Betty Lou Harbo were married. Following their marriage they made their home in the Tracy area and raised their six children. They later divorced. Lindy and Katherine Hook where married and made their home in Minneapolis, MN where Lindy worked for Montgomery Wards. Upon his returned to the Currie area Lindy owned and operated a radiator shop and sold cars in the Currie and Tracy area. Katherine passed away in 1987. In 1991 Lindy and Clarice Ochocki Cross were married and made their home in Currie.
Lindy passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 90. He was a past member of the Willow Lake Lutheran Church near Tracy, MN. He also was an honorary member of the Currie American Legion Post. Lindy enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching car races, shooting the bull and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice Haugen of Currie, MN, six children and their spouses, Linda and Gene Tordsen of Sauk Centre, MN, Kathleen and Andrew Peterson of Glenwood, MN, Charles “Chuck” and Elizabeth “Liz” Haugen of Slayton, MN, Pamela Haugen of Currie, MN, Georgia Hanson of Springfield, MN, and Abbie and Scott Stirn of Currie, MN, 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, one sister, Doris Cote of Slayton, MN and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Mandy Haack, infant great-granddaughter, Madyson Stirn, infant sister, Pearl Haugen, eight siblings and their spouses, Hans and Gladys Haugen, Edward and Reva Haugen, Myrtle and Seward Johnson, Goldie and Joe Johnson, Tillie and Fabian Maher, Pearl and John Moon, John and Ardyce Haugen and George and Ardis Haugen and one brother-in-law, Norm Cote.
