Truth-in-taxation public hearings about proposed 2018 real estate taxes are planned within the coming week.
Lyon County, the Tracy Area Public School district, and the City of Tracy will all host hearings offering information about 2018 property tax levies and budgets.
Dates and places of hearings are:
Lyon County—Thursday, Dec. 7, 6:30 p.m., Commissioners’ Room, Lyon County Government Center, Marshall.
Tracy Public Schools District 2904—Monday, Dec. 11, 6:05 p.m., high school media center.
City of Tracy—Monday, Dec. 11, 6:45 p.m., Tracy City Hall.
All hearings offer citizens the opportunity to ask questions and offer comments about proposed budgets and tax levies.
Lyon County recently mailed statements to all property owners, listing proposed real estate taxes for individual properties. The statements compare real estate taxes paid in 2017, and what is proposed for 2018.
The proposed 2018 real estate taxes are based on preliminary levies that were certified in September.
Local units of government must finalize their property tax levies by the end of December. The final levy cannot be greater than the preliminary levy, but it can be less.
