A celebration of life service will be held for Deanna Mae Garbers, 46, of Sherburn, Minnesota on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minnesota with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont, Minnesota.
Deanna was called to her eternal rest on Monday, December 18, 2017, at the Season’s Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota, after a four year courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Deanna was born on February 11, 1971 to Marvin and Roberta (Wiese) Garbers at the Fairmont Community Hospital. She was baptized on March 21, 1971 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn and later confirmed her faith on April 21, 1985. Deanna was a member of the first graduating class from Martin County West Schools in 1989. She attended Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she played basketball and volleyball, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in teaching in 1993. Her first job took her to the Tracy-Milroy School District where she taught sixth grade and coached volleyball and girls basketball. In September 1999 Deanna moved back to Sherburn and taught sixth grade and again coached volleyball and girls basketball in the Martin County West School District. After several years Deanna moved to the high school and taught math until she was no longer able to teach in November at which time she became a resident at the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota.
Deanna was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. She enjoyed officiating high school volleyball matches and in her free time she could often be found at a sporting event cheering for her nieces and nephews.
Deanna is survived by her parents, Marvin and Roberta Garbers of Sherburn, her sisters, Brenda (David) Lovhaug of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and Marla (Cliff) Anderson of Sherburn, Minnesota, nephews and nieces, Daniel Lovhaug, Paul Lovhaug, Bethany Lovhaug, Zachary Anderson and Emily Anderson, aunts and uncles, Delores (JeRay) Armstrong, Rosella (Norman) Pavel, and Jackie Wiese and cousins Tammy (Tom) Gaden and Traci (John) Anthens.
Deanna is preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter and Minnie (Diekmann) Garbers and Robert and Gertie (Peper) Wiese Sr., uncles, Melvin Garbers and Robert Wiese Jr., niece, Laura Lovhaug, and other family and friends.
Deanna’s family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers which will be used for the Deanna Garbers Scholarship fund at Martin County West Schools.
