Funeral Services for Dorothy Anderson, 94, of Tracy, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Following the luncheon at church, interment was at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Slayton.
Dorothy Jean Schroll was born to Brice and Theresa Schroll on May 12, 1922 in Mason Township, Murray County. She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Slayton. She attended a country school located next to the Schroll farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1940. Growing up, she was an active 4-H member and enrolled at the Minnesota School of Agriculture on the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota after graduating from high school.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the Murray County Selective Service for a period of time until she moved to Chula Vista, CA in 1942 and worked for Consolidated Aircraft. She married Robert (Bob) Anderson on November 22, 1942. After his discharge from the Army Air Corp in 1944, they returned to Minnesota and farmed near Dovray, MN. In 1962, they purchased a farm west of Tracy and moved there and began a dairy operation. After Bob’s farm accident in 1964, Dorothy and the kids continued milking for a number of years until they retired from farming.
Dorothy then took a job as a bookkeeper, spending 23 years at the Tracy Farmers Elevator working for four different managers, retiring in 1989. Dorothy served as a 4-H leader and was an active member of Tracy Lutheran Church. On the farm, and later in Tracy, Dorothy was an avid flower gardener and her yards were filled with color all summer long. She was a member of the Hoe & Hope Garden Club. She loved collecting and growing hostas, having over 100 varieties and often shared them with family and friends. She also was a knitter and every grandchild had something special made by her. She was an avid reader and even mastered a Nook in her later years.
In 1999, Bob and Dorothy moved into Tracy. In 2011, they moved to O’Brien Court. Bob passed away in 2012 after they had shared 69 years of marriage. Dorothy remained at O’Brien Court until January 2018 when she moved to Prairie View Senior Living. Just several weeks ago, the family celebrated her 96th birthday with her. She passed away on June 20, 2018 at age of 96.
She is survived by daughter Peggy (Sander) Ludeman of Tracy, MN, son McRae (Cindy) Anderson of Afton, MN, daughter Marcy (Jim) Anderson of Dell Rapids, SD, and son Mark (Lori) Anderson of Crystal, MN; seven grandchildren, Sander (Breanna) Ludeman, Dayna (Ben) Bassett, Kyle (Jamy) Anderson, Karsten (Jackie) Anderson, Kiira (Zach) Weber, Tara Anderson, Jon Anderson. Great grandchildren are Sander and Camden Ludeman, Miles and Cora Bassett, Lincoln, Tace, Tenly, and Leo Anderson.
She was preceded in death by husband Robert, parents Brice and Theresa, brothers Harold and Russell, sisters-in-laws Helen Schroll and Onata Mae Schroll.
