Richard “Bud” Sell, age 89 of Walnut Grove, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 surrounded by his family at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30 at Walnut Grove Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Richard “Bud” Sell was born October 15, 1928, youngest of twelve, to Wilhelm and Emilia (Noding) Sell in Westbrook, Minnesota. He attended school in Westbrook. After his schooling, he worked on the family farm until his brother Alfred came back from the service. Bud then worked at Westbrook produce.
On June 3, 1950, Bud married Delores Jean Nelson in Westbrook. They moved to Hartley, Iowa, where Bud graded produce for the Army. In 1953, Bud and Delores returned to Westbrook. They bought a filling station and returned to farming for four years. Then Bud and his brother Alfred bought Nelson Implement and made it into Sell Brothers, Inc. They sold the dealership in September of 1998. Bud loved playing softball and organized the Old Fogies Softball Team. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching Westerns on TV. Bud loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Richard is survived by his wife Delores of 68 years; children: Ric (Lisa) Sell, Debra (Rich) Martius, Kathy (Loren) Knakmuhs all of Walnut Grove and Jim (Lynnelle) Sell of Medina; grandchildren: Tim, Staci, Ben, Jackie, Ashley, Joshua, Jordan, Ty and Drew; 11 great grandchildren; sister Hilma Thompson of Minneapolis; brother-in-law Floyd Schadt of Slayton; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.
