Roger A Salmon, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019 at Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo ND. He was born on October 16th, 1940 in Bismarck ND to the parents of Guy and Marllys Salmon and was the second born of four children.
Roger played football and enjoyed being in the band in Tracy, MN high school. He along with his brother Dean received the Eagle Scout award which was a great accomplishment. Upon graduating, he attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN and was the President of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. While he was there he met his wife, Susan Blomfield and they were married on November 12th, 1963 in Hudson, WI.
Roger became a high school English teacher at Hopkins, MN. They soon became proud parents of Scott and Todd. After a few years, he decided to have a career change and was very successful with Cargill which included many moves and many job titles. Some of the places they lived included California, Iowa, and Minnesota and he finished his career at Cargill in Santa Cruz, California where he took early retirement. Over the many years at Cargill, he was able to travel the world and loved taking photos and showing slideshows of all 27 countries he visited.
Roger loved the Lord and his many passions included serving in his local churches, teaching Sunday school, bible studies, and growth groups. He had a love for golf and one of his greatest memories was taking his two sons to the US Open at Pebble Beach.
You could hear Roger’s laugh from across any room. He had a huge personality and would do anything for anyone. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 5 years ago and moved to Fargo to be closer to the family. Before he was unable to communicate he would tell us not to feel sorry for him as he traveled the world with Sue and enjoyed his whole life. One blessing from the Lord was that he never forgot us before the Lord took him home.
Left to honor Roger are his: wife-Sue Salmon; son-Todd (Lori) Salmon; daughter-in-law-Patty Salmon; five grandchildren; Zachary Salmon, Hunter Salmon, Anna Salmon, Megan Salmon, and David Salmon; brother- Dean (Judy) Salmon; sister-Marilyn Salmon; and many nieces and nephews.
