The streak is alive at Tracy Area High School.
For the third straight year, a TAHS student will represent Region 3A in the Minnesota State High School League “Triple A” competition.
Cassidy Smith has been chosen as this year’s recipient, following in the footsteps of Gabbie Gervais and Sarita Hook, and will represent Region 3A at the state level.
Smith said she was somewhat surprised upon learning she was the region’s ’”Triple A” representative.
“I knew I had a chance at winning my sub-section, but winning the region was really crazy, especially since I’m the third girl in a row from Tracy to win it,” she said. “That is really cool.”
Smith plans on attending South Dakota State University in the fall and majoring in human biology. She wants to become a physical therapist after college.
“I’ve always loved biology,” she said. “It’s come so easy for me and I really enjoy it. If I had to choose between biology or history, I’d definitely choose biology.”
Smith’s activities at Tracy Area High School include band, choir, volleyball, basketball, and track. She is a member of the schools’ chamber choir and has been the drum major of the school’s marching band the past two years.
She has received “Superior” ratings throughout her career of playing the piano. In athletics, Smith has been a member of some very successful volleyball and basketball teams. She was a member of the Panther volleyball team that finished fourth at the state tournament her sophomore year and last year’s basketball team that finished fifth at the state tournament. She has received all-conference honors in volleyball the past two years.
