Will students catch a break?

As winter continues to wreak havoc on the school schedule, District No. 2904 explores the idea of turning a planned spring break day in mid-March into a make-up day

Spring break 2019 might not be much of a break at all for students at Tracy Area Public Schools.
District No. 2904 this year set aside two days — March 14-15 — as vacation days, but because the number of snow days is piling up as fast as a drift on a boulevard, the district is considering using at least one of those planned vacation days as a make-up day.
Monday’s snow day was the ninth already this winter. Five of those days were Virtual Learning Days and don’t have to be made up. The February 8 snow day will be made up on April 22 — one of the Easter vacation days — and the February 12 and 20 snow days will be made up on May 30 and 31. That left the most recent snow day — this past Monday — without a make-up day.
By using April 22 (the last day of Easter break) as a vacation day as recommended by Supt. Chad Anderson and approved by the board Monday, the district’s final student contact day theoretically would be June 3, if all the snow days are made up. Anderson said he wouldn’t recommend using the first day of Easter break (April 19) for a make-up day.
