Joseph Leo Guimond, 82, of Elk Point, SD passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Joe was born on Sept. 1, 1936 in Tracy, MN to Leo and Elsie (Buzzell) Guimond.
He married Morene Haney in Tracy, MN in 1958 and they were blessed with two daughters, Angie and Shelley and a son, Paul. The family moved to several places namely Yankton, Elk Point, and Vermillion. In 1980 they made their final destination in Sioux Falls. Morene passed away in 1986.
Later he met and married Gaylene Dirkson in 1990 in Sioux Falls before they made their home in Elk Point, in 1993. To this union brought Joe a second son, Greg.
Joe loved being outdoors. Fishing and hunting were his favorites. He enjoyed cleaning pheasants for people at the hunting lodge. He also loved driving around town bothering people. He enjoyed golfing and having his “men time” drinking coffee at Casey’s. He loved watching his favorite team, the “Vikings” play football.
He was very proud serving as an Honor Guard at funerals for deceased veterans.
Survivors are his wife, Gaylene of Elk Point, his children, Angie (Todd) Sims of Portland, OR, Shelley Krohn of Phoenix, AZ, and Greg (Christa) Gunderson of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Allison Sims, Jessica Hines, Joe Krohn, Nicole Krohn Carlisle, and Ryder Carlisle; his siblings, Mary Olson of New Prague, MN, David Guimond of Bloomington, MN, Francis Guimond of Warrenton, VA and James Guimond of New Prague, MN; 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo & Elsie Guimond, his first wife, Morene Guimond, his son, Paul Guimond, his sister, Ruth Carrol, and brother, Dennis Guimond.
Memorial service will be held Saturday August 10, 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tracy, MN.
