Janet Catherine McFarlane was born on September 16, 1938 in Green Valley, Minnesota to Ovid (O.J.) and Cecelia (Gregoire) Qunell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She graduated from the Holy Redeemer Catholic High School in 1956. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis to work, until marrying David E. Tutch, Sr. in July of 1957. They raised their four children in the Lynd and Slayton area. In November of 1980, Janet married Edward McFarlane in Tracy and moved to California. During her years there, Janet became a Floral Designer, and managed a flower shop there for 7 years. After retiring, she continued to work part-time at VIP Floral in Slayton and in Hemet, CA. Janet and Ed loved the winters they spent in the Mountain Shadows RV Resort, along with an occasional happy hour. She loved singing and acting in the Variety Shows, and sang many Johnny Cash and June Carter songs with her singing partner over the years. She also enjoyed travelling, and was blessed to be able to go to Hawaii with her long-time friend, Marilyn Kor, and a trip to Italy with her daughter Michelle was one of the true highlights of her life. She was an avid golfer, enjoying most Tuesdays in the summer on the golf course in Tracy with her daughter Annette, and the many friends she had there. She loved spending time playing cards with her family and friends, and playing with her great-grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her children: David Tutch Jr. of St. Johns, AZ, Annette and Tom Carr of Lynd, Susan Gropel of Marshall, and Michelle Simonsen of Minnetonka, and “adopted” son and family, Carlos and Edna Mendes and daughters Nara and Mai of Sao Paulo, Brazil; grandchildren: Vanessa (Bryan) Grossman, David (Jessica) Tutch, Eric Tutch, Alyssa (BJ) Labat, Brian Carr, and Rebecca Carr; great-grandchildren: Sienna Grossman, Roderick Tutch, Brendan Labat and Mia Labat; and sister Joyce Redding of Slayton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward McFarlane, siblings Gloria Vien, Robert Qunell, George Qunell, Jean Clark, and Joan Polfliet.
