Corine Reiter was born on June 16, 1924 on the family farm near Currie, Minnesota to Jacob and Emilia Pommier Illg. She grew up on the Illg family farm and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1942. On September 25, 1945 she and John “Johnie” Reiter were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie. Following their marriage they farmed near Currie until 1952 when they opened Reiter’s Locker and Grocery Store in Currie. They retired in 1975 and remained in Currie spending summers at Lake Shetek. Cornie worked part-time as a housekeeper at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Rectory until 2001. Johnie passed away on October 4, 2003. Corine remained in her home until November 2019 when she moved to O’Brien Court in Tracy, MN. Due to failing health Cornie moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on October 23, 2020. She passed away there on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the age of 96. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where she was active in the WCCW. She also was a member of the Currie American Legion Auxiliary. Corine enjoyed time with her girl friends, coffee time and being at Lake Shetek and all the lake people.
Survivors include her two sons and their spouses, Alan and Mary Reiter of River Falls, WI, and Curt and Gail Reiter of Omaha, NE, four grandchildren, Todd Reiter and his wife, Catherine, Gina Mortenson and her husband, Jim, Joseph Reiter and Brian Reiter, three great-grandchildren, Max, Eric and Ava Reiter, two step-great-grandchildren, Tristan and Alexi Mortenson, one sister, June Schreier of Slayton, MN, and family friend, Christine Reiter, mother of Max, Eric and Ava Reiter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Johnie, infant sister, Joy Illg and brother-in-law, Duane Schreier.
A private family service will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie on Thursday, November 5, 2020 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating.
