Box Car Days was back in full force this past weekend for its 94th year

Claire Hannasch and Perry Fales have been around Tracy for a long time, so they know what Box Car Days means to everyone who calls Tracy home.
This past weekend, the two were among thousands of people — those from Tracy and those from other towns and states — who enjoyed a festive weekend and welcomed back a time-honored Tracy tradition.
“It’s great that we can have this again,” Hannasch said. “It’s a real pleasure.”
Hannasch, a former mayor of Tracy, had just finished up his pancake breakfast at the annual Fly-In/Drive-In Pancake Breakfast at Tracy’s Municipal Airport when he shared his thoughts on the return of Box Car Days and called last year’s Labor Day weekend a “dead” period.
“It just didn’t have any meaning at all,” he said. “Missing all the enjoyment that people always have was just devastating. Everyone was just following the rules, and that’s what we had to do.”
