Hermina Leysen was born on April 14, 1923, in Little Rock, Iowa to George and Sara Muller Tuin. Following the death of her father the family moved to a farm north of Slayton, MN. Hermina attended Lake Beauty Country School and graduated from Slayton High School. In 1941 she and Ralph Cochran were married in Slayton. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Slayton. Ralph passed away in 1943. Leaving Hermina with son, Gerald and baby, Ralph on the way. On March 7, 1948, she, and William “Bill” Leysen were married at the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Following their marriage, they made their home on the Seven Gables Farm on Bloody Lake. The family spent many hours fishing, swimming, having cookouts, and camping at Seven Gables. In 1983 they moved to Slayton. Bill passed away on April 21, 2002. Hermina passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the age of 99. She was a member of the Currie Presbyterian Church in Currie until it closed. Hermina was active in the Women’s Circle. She also was a member of the Currie American Legion Auxiliary, The Busy Beavers Extension Club, The Friendship Club, and several card clubs. Her greatest enjoyment was her family and time spent with her children, grandchildren, and their families. Hermina enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, playing cards, Scrabble, refinishing furniture, Bingo, and trips to area casinos.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Gerald and Sandy Cochran of Mesa, AZ, Ralph and Kay Cochran of Tracy, MN, Bill and Becky Leysen of Farmington, MN, and Laurel and Dave Jorgenson of Westbrook, MN, 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 41 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandson, one sister-in-law, Doris Schreier of Slayton, MN and several nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ralph Cochran, husband, Bill Leysen, granddaughter, Lisa Cochran, and four brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral Services are at Slayton Presbyterian Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dave Erickson officiating with special music by Wendy Steffen, Robin Leonard, and Ron Moffitt. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment is Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.
