Allen Kerr, age 85, of Marshall, Minnesota, fell asleep in death on April 23, 2022, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Allen Dennis Kerr was born in Mason City, Iowa, on October 10, 1936, to Alexander and Esther (Anderson) Kerr. At the tender age of 4 Allen moved with his family to Westbrook, Minnesota, to the family farm where he grew up. He attended a country school 2 miles from his home.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 7, 1951, at the age of 14. He shared this day with his sister Elaine who was also baptized that same day. Allen knew his Bible well. At the age of 14 he would receive in the mail his addressed and individually wrapped Watchtower and Awake magazines. He would take time each day to read his Bible along with these Bible based magazines and literature. As he read, he would look up every scripture in these publications even if he already knew these Bible verses by heart.
Allen worked as a farmer and for many years in poultry processing in both Litchfield and Marshall, Minnesota. He has resided in Marshall since 2012.
Allen was loved and cared for by his many friends in the Marshall congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses whom he regarded as family. Allen’s sister Elaine and her children would especially like to thank John Grebel and John Folken who showed great love and appreciation for him. His faithful life course will continue to provide strength in the years to come.
He is survived by his sister, Elaine Scherer of Yankton, SD; nephews and nieces, Dan Scherer of Rochester, WA, Naomi (Mike) Falcon of Loveland, CO, David (Elizabeth) Scherer of Loveland, CO, Michael (Jessica) Scherer of Omaha, NE; and great-nephews and nieces, Tori Scherer, Evan Scherer, Sam Kelley, Morgan Kelley, Paityn Scherer, Dominic Scherer and Jaxon Scherer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Wayne Scherer; and many cousins including Donald Kerr and Douglas Kerr.
