Carl Arthur Petersen was born on September 10, 1963 to Willis and Irene (Filter) Petersen in Tracy, Minnesota.  He was baptized on November 29, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy and was confirmed there as well on May 21, 1978.  As a kid he helped on the farm all the way through young adulthood.  He attended school in Tracy, graduating from Tracy High School. On January 30, 1988 he was united in marriage to Sharon Rustman in Tracy.  After their marriage the couple moved to Montevideo, Minnesota where he worked in power line construction.  The family moved to Pipestone where he continued to work doing power line construction until the early 2000s.  He spent the last 15 years in Crop Services working as a professional farm applicator, seed salesman, and delivering propane and anhydrous.  Carl died peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the age of 58.

Carl was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he served as an usher.  He served on the Troy Township Board of Directors for nine years and was a supervisor as well.  He was also passionate about donating blood, doing so regularly for the last 25 years.  Much of Carl’s life was spent outdoors.  He enjoyed grilling and smoking meat, drinking a Coors Light with family and friends, and just keeping busy with small tasks day to day.  For 10 years he found joy in raising quarter horses.  He liked to listen to classic rock music and shoot pool or throw darts.  He was a good carpenter and also had skills to work on tractors, vehicles, and small engines as well.  Hunting was a favorite pastime, whether pheasants or deer he enjoyed being out with family and friends, especially his sons, Brad and Jason.  Carl was a person that gave many loved ones advice to help overcome life’s obstacles.  In 2012 he was nominated and was one of four finalists for AGCO Application Equipment’s Operator of the Year.  One of Carl’s favorite things was taking a joyride with wife, Sharon and enjoying the countryside together.

Carl is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon, of Pipestone; four children, Brad (Lisa) Rustman of Alexandria, Minnesota, Jason (Nikki) Rustman of Waynesville, Missouri, Becky (Jake) Van Dyke of Elkton, South Dakota, and Ashley (significant other, Justin Simpson) Petersen of Brookings, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Bryce, Reid, Eve, AJ, Jazelle, and Adonis; two siblings, Kathy (Gary) Driessen of Canby, Minnesota, and Phil (Larry) Maeyaert of Tracy, Minnesota; and many other family members and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Irene; and one brother, Darrell Petersen.
