Rebecca Anne Royster was born on October 25, 1957, to Charles and Annabelle (Shea) Royster in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was baptized, received her first communion, and was confirmed at the Catholic Church in Duncombe, Iowa. Becky attended St. Edmund’s Catholic School before graduating from high school in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where she met her high school sweetheart, Glen Sams. In January 1977 Becky and Glen were united in marriage and they had a daughter, Lindsey. The family made homes in Ortho and Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Minnesota, settling in Cottonwood in 1984. About 8 months after moving to Minnesota, Glen died unexpectedly, and Becky and Lindsey then moved to Marshall.

Becky was a driven woman with a strong business background. She was a hard-working and stern woman who was persuasive in all of her dealings and did so in a very pleasant and clear way. Her skills served her well as she worked for many years in collections for a leasing company and later worked her way up to the vice president of portfolio management with US Bank.  Becky also taught classes on negotiating techniques and instruction and thrived in helping others succeed.

In the late 1980s, Becky was introduced to Mr. Joseph Lanoue and the two had an instant connection. After a few years of dating, the couple was married on May 5, 1990, at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy and they made their home on the family farm. Becky and Joe added another daughter, Shea, to the family.

Becky was a supportive mother but always had a strict and consistent way about her. She had a certain “look” she would give her girls when needed. She loved and supported her grandchildren whole-heartedly and would often tell her husband and her daughters that her grandchildren “were better than the originals.” Becky and Joe had many enjoyments together including going for car rides, eating out, and enjoying a beer or wine together, and raising horses on their farm.  Becky was also devoted to her church over the years and served in various roles.

Becky was proud to be a survivor of breast cancer.  Then in 2019, Becky was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal dementia. Becky and her family relied heavily on their faith to help navigate new territory. Rebecca Anne Lanoue died on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the age of 65 years, 1 month, and 25 days. Blessed and eternal be her memory.

Becky is survived by her husband, Joe Lanoue of Tracy; 2 daughters, Lindsey Sams (and Steven Carter) of Walnut Grove, Shea (and Daren) Pedersen of Tracy; 9 grandchildren, Logan Girard, Madyson Girard, Kaylie Johnson, Aleya Johnson, Charley Johnson, Sam Johnson, Ramsey Pedersen, Pierce Pedersen, Asher Pedersen; 4 siblings, Craig (and Peg) Royster of Duncombe, IA, Debbie (and Larry) Freese of Manson, IA, Kim (and Dennis) Worth of Monroe, IA, Kellie (and Daryl) Hanson of Duncombe, IA; father-in-law, George Lanoue of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles “Chuck” and Annabelle “Annie” Royster; first husband, Glen Sams; and mother-in-law, Mary Lanoue.
