Devin Carter wrestled smart and patiently through three periods and into overtime of his championship match against BWB’s Eli Larson at Saturday’s championship match of the Minnesota State Individual Wrestling Tournament. It wasn’t until the second overtime that the 126-pound Panther junior wrapped up his first Class A individual state title, scoring a takedown as time expired in the second period in a 3-2 triumph at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
“I’ve never wrestled somebody shorter than me like that before at this level of competition,” said Carter, who took second place at state a year ago. “It was very hard to adjust because my shots are usually high to low.”
