With Tracy Area Animal Rescue running at full capacity, the question of what happens to stray dogs in town — and for animal control in general — was brought up by Tracy City council member Jan Arvizu last the most recent city council meeting.
“We don’t have any facility in this town that is designated that normally cities do when animals are picked up,” Arvizu said Monday during Tracy Police Chief Jason Lichty’s department head report.
Lichty said the department’s policy is that if it picks up a stray dog without a collar or tag and don’t know whose it is — sometimes there are people in the area of town where the dog was located might know the dog, or the PD finds a mailman to see if they recognize a dog — the dog will be brought to the vet to be scanned.
