Cheryl Ann Campbell, age 79 of Balaton formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 24, 2023 at home. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Cheryl Ann Campbell was born May 24, 1943 to Alfred and Eyvonne (Rose) Sell in Slayton, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry. Cheryl graduated from Walnut Grove High School. On November 2, 1963, Cheryl was united in marriage to Lyle Campbell at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Together the couple lived in Marshall for 28 years before moving back to Walnut Grove in 2000.
Cheryl worked in housekeeping at the Travelers Lodge in Marshall and later opened her own daycare. Cheryl greatly enjoyed caring for her daycare children. After moving back to Walnut Grove, she worked in the kitchen at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook. Cheryl was a member of English Lutheran Church and was active with the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards and having afternoon tea with family. You could often find her watching NBA basketball or listening to country and polka music. Cheryl loved cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her son Michael (Kimberly) Campbell of Shakopee; daughter Jody (Ricky) Layman of Balaton; grandchildren: Benjamin (fiancée Molly) & Luke Campbell and Stephanie (Ryan) Fricke & Nicholas (Brittany) Layman; great grandchildren: Shauna, Aaliyah, Jaxon, Walker, & Layla Fricke and Jordan, Chase, Grayson & Alexis Layman; siblings: Dennis (Diane) Sell of Wichita, KS and Ron (JoAnn) Sell and Rosanne Sell both of Fort Collins, CO; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Lyle.
