Clair “Bud” Hanson, age 90 of Walnut Grove, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, June 12 at Walnut Grove Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Clair “Bud” Hanson was born November 16, 1932 to Clarence and Alice (Sandbo) Hanson in Westbrook Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. In 1951, Bud graduated from Westbrook High School. Following graduation, he served in the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began working construction. On February 2, 1959, Bud married Alice Maeyaert in Brookings, South Dakota. Bud worked for Tadd and Boelke Construction, before starting Hanson Construction in 1968.
When Bud and Alice moved to Walnut Grove, he built and remodeled many houses and buildings, until he retired in 1995. Bud was a member of the Walnut Grove American Legion. He enjoyed going to the races to watch his family and attending the Clay County fair in Spencer, IA. He liked to make lefse and beef jerky and you could often find him reading or woodworking. Bud loved spending time with family and going to his grandchildren’s events.
Clair is survived by his children: Joseph (Melanie Schieffert) Hanson of Walnut Grove, Julie (Ray) Jenniges of Ellsworth, Karla (Steve) Hay of Walnut Grove, Steve (Dawn) Hanson of Walnut Grove, James (Gail Seikora-Hanson) Hanson of Redwood Falls & Wayne Hanson of Willmar; grandchildren: Danielle, Adam, Zachary, Tristan, Ashley, Samantha, Nicole, Shawn, Stacy, Garett, Courtney, Cassidy and Kendall; 13 great grandchildren; siblings: Sonja (Robert) Swenson, Karen Shaplin, Twyla (William) Otto and Wydon Hanson; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, grandson Austyn James Hanson, daughter-in-law Michelle Lea Hanson, and siblings & spouses: Algene (Bernard) Leiferman, Dale (LaVonne), Myrl (Iola), Dennis (Marlene), Garry (Joan), David Shaplin, Charles and Gaylon.
