With the clock ticking on the legalization of marijuana in Minnesota, the Tracy City Council on Monday scheduled a special meeting to put into effect an emergency ordinance outlining what people can and can’t get away with in town.
The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 28. The ordinance, which will be drafted by City Attorney Matthew Gross, will serve as a placeholder that will buy the City time to draft and approve permanent guidelines for the use of cannabis in town. Other towns have done the same since the law was passed earlier this year.
The emergency ordinance takes effect 24 hours after it is adopted by the city council. A two-thirds vote is needed to pass an emergency ordinance.
The new state law will allow people 21 and older to use and possess certain marijuana products in Minnesota.
