A number of Tracy residents attended Friday’s special council meeting to express their concerns about the State of Minnesota opening its doors to legalized recreational marijuana as of Aug. 1. As it turns out, they were delaying the inevitable.
However, mixed in with their personal bias against the use of marijuana and its negative effects, they made some valid points that spoke to the importance of keeping pot out of Tracy.
In the end, the council voted unanimously to pass an emergency ordinance (2023-68) prohibiting the use of cannabis and cannabis products in all public places — streets, sidewalks, easements, publicly-owned property, parks and parking lots — in Tracy. The motion was made by council member Jeri Schons and seconded by council member Seth Schmidt.
