This week’s Lyon County Fair once again has something for everyone this year.
You want music? You’re covered at this year’s fair with musical entertainment provided by The Whitesidewalls (Aug. 9) IV Play (Thursday Aug. 10), HickTown Mafia and Ashley Barron (Aug. 11), The Roxbury and The Hype! (Aug. 12) and Sherwin Linton, Tribute to Johnny Cash (multiple days).
“We have a lot of bands coming this year, with a couple of new ones,” said Delores Richards, a fair organizer for decades. “And we already have stuff booked for 2024. Sherwin Linton said he’d love to come back to Marshall one more time. He’s also doing a gospel show.”
How about food? No problem. How does a steak fry sound? Or a free pancake breakfast? Are you a Dad’s Belgian Waffle fan? The fair — for the first time — has that, too, not to mention all sorts of fair fare.
• This year’s Murray County Fair in Slayton will take place from August 16-19 and will include many of the usual favorites.
Commercial, museum, 4-H, and FFA buildings are open from the official start of the fair on Wednesday, August 16, through Saturday evening, and 4-H Livestock shows occur every day in Olson Arena.
New this year is the special American Veterans Traveling Tribute exhibit, which will be in Slayton Aug. 15-20. The opening ceremony is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Slayton Soccer Fields. An Antique Tractor show will also take place at the soccer field every day of the fair.
