$104,100!

One hundred-and-seventeen purple ribbons were purchased by local famers and businesses at this year’s Lyon County 4-H Purple Ribbon Auction, but that’s not the number that really stood out.

As the bids continued to be made and ribbons handed out by the hard-working 4-Hers, the total bid amount eclipsed the previous record. Then the auction made more history by blowing past the $100,000-mark on the way to a grand total of $104,100.

“It’s just so exciting to see our community supporting the kids and the future of youth and our future leaders that we have here,” said Paul Lanoue, one of the organizers of the auction. “It’s humbling as a parent to see the community come out and loving on these kids.”

The auction, which has been a staple of the fair for more than 20 years, Lanoue missed out on the even during his days in 4-H, so he’s extra appreciative of how giving local residents are.
