Following the same path as many other cities in Lyon County, the Balaton City Council on Monday unanimously approved an emergency ordinance (2023-17) prohibiting the use of cannabis and cannabis products in all public places — streets, sidewalks, easements, publicly-owned property, parks and parking lots — in Balaton.
A violation of the ordinance will be considered a petty misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of $200. The maximum penalty for a petty misdemeanor is $300.
