The proposed 2024 budget for the City of Balaton will equate to a roughly 1% levy hike.
During a special budget meeting Tuesday, the Balaton City Council stopped short of confirming the preliminary number, but felt confident it will hover in that range.
The council set another meeting for 7 a.m. this Friday to hammer out any lingering details and plan on setting the levy at that time.
The levy must be certified by the end of the month.
The levy will become official at December’s Truth in Taxation meeting. Until then, it can be lowered but not raised.
Balaton Mayor Lonnie Lambertus said Tuesday he was pleased with how the proposed budget numbers have played out.
“The budget process is going along good,” he said. “We’re happy with 1%; we’d like to see it lower, but we’ll wait and see until all the numbers come back. The last few years, the percentage has been high, and people have noticed. We’re trying to keep it down this year.”
