The Lyon County Board of Commissioners at last Thursday evening’s Truth and Taxation meeting zeroed in on the 2024 budget with all signs pointing to a 1% levy increase.
The 1% bump would be the smallest increase since 2018 and is down 2.4% from a year ago.
The proposed budget for 2024 is $16,215,001, up slightly from $16,043.924 in 2023.
“This has been a budget year that I’ve never seen before,” said Lyon County Administrator Loren Stomberg. “A few things really affect this budget: Our County Program Aid from the state, we’re getting an extra $350,000 in program aid. Also, our interest rates — a year-and-a-half ago we were under 1%, now we’re at 5-1/2%, which makes a huge difference. We’re also getting about 5% interest on our checking account.”
