Tom Dobson will succeed Jeff Carpenter as Community Development Director in Tracy.
Carpenter had served as Tracy’s EDA director since 2018 when he succeeded Tara Onken. His title was changed and responsibilities expanded a couple years ago under previous administration, but he could no longer hold the position after taking over as Tracy’s city administrator late last summer.
The recently-retired Dobson, who has worked side-by-side with Carpenter for months to develop additional housing in Tracy, was both an EDA board member and city councilman. However, he will have to give up his council seat as the new development director.
His council term ends this year.
The Tracy City Council accepted Dobson’s resignation at Monday’s meeting and will appoint his replacement to bridge the gap between now and the November election; that will be a four-year term.
“I really enjoyed being on the council, I learned a lot,” Dobson said. “Had this not opened up, I would’ve continued on through the rest of my term at least.”
