A night for the seniors

LeRoy Johnson might have said it best at last week’s Tracy Area High School Senior Awards Night:

“As you celebrate your 20-, 30-, 40-year class reunions, you’re going to reminisce, and say probably the best years of your lives were the 12 years in the Tracy school system,” said Johnson, one of many scholarship presenters Wednesday. “Right now, you’re filled with anxiety and excitement and you can’t wait to get out there in the real world, but think about the words that I just said. The opportunities are out there, and the challenges are great … may you all have a blessed and great future.”

Johnson was addressing this year’s TAHS seniors, who gathered in the high school gym Wednesday in front of proud parents and family members to receive awards and scholarships a couple weeks before the school year — and their high school careers — comes to a conclusion.

More than $55,000 in scholarships was given out by local businesses, organizations and TAHS alumni. Including outside scholarships, that total reached more than $150,000.
