A big project originally spearheaded by the late Helen and Gary Brinks has come to fruition.

Thanks to a $52,800 grant from Developmental Services Inc. out of Ivanhoe, the Garvin American Legion Auxiliary building has received a major interior upgrade.

“Helen is the one that did a lot of the groundwork,” said Auxiliary President Kathy Schmidt. “She’s the one that looked into it years ago.”

After Helen and Gary passed away, Susie Learning took over the project until her husband fell ill. By the time the grant went though, Schmidt was running the show.
