After being denied two weeks ago for various reasons, the Milroy School Board on Monday accepted a one-year property/building insurance bid with The Hanover, with a buy down for $5,825 that would bring down the school’s deductible from $100,000 to $10,000.
“Hanover is basically the only one who would be willing to write us for property insurance,” Milroy Public School Supt. John Willey said. “Some schools are getting denied completely, unless they do improvements. Your property insurance as a whole is going up almost $3,000” (from the expiring premium of $33,639.36 to the proposed $36,612.77). The ugly part of this is that the wind (and) hail damage to the roof would be a deductible of $100,000 — you’re basically self-funding your roof.”
