Lexi Dahmes didn’t need to watch Jack Black’s “School of Rock” over and over again to realize she has a love of performing, but the movie did inspire her to try out for Marshall Area Stage Company’s upcoming musical rendition of the 2003 hit film.

Lexi, who will be a sixth-grader at Tracy Area Elementary School this fall, landed the role of Freddie Hamilton, a student at an uptight private elementary school who plays a young drummer in a band assembled by failed rocker-turned substitute teacher Dewey Finn (Black). Finn works with the students to turn them into a young rock band.

“Jack Black is an awesome actor,” Lexi said. “I think my mom had me watched it, and I liked it. I downloaded it on my iPad, and it was the only movie I had downloaded, so I watched it over and over. I just really liked it.”

Getting the role of Freddie makes being in the MASC musical even better than she could’ve imagined.
