Lowell Stanek, 90, of Alexandria passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Alomere Health Care Center in Alexandria. A public visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria from 4-6 p.m.
Lowell Franklin Stanek was born on April 8, 1934 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to William and Leona (Bauer) Stanek. On April 10, 1965 he married Oma Beehler. Together, the couple welcomed two children, Ellen and Richard.
Lowell attended Teachers Training and taught in a one-room rural school for 3 years. He then took a teaching position in Slayton, Minnesota, which is where he met Oma. Lowell was then called into service, where he served in St. Louis, Missouri with the CIA. Most of this time he worked in the records department, giving security clearance to individuals going into government jobs. Following his time in the military, Lowell got a teaching job in Tracy, where he made his career in education.
Lowell enjoyed gardening, spending time at the family’s lake home, refinishing antiques, and playing cards. After making their home in Slayton and Tracy, the couple moved to Alexandria to be closer to their grandchildren.
At the age of 90, Lowell passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Alomere Heath Care Center in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his wife in September of 2019, Oma (Beehler) Stanek; parents, William and Leona Stanek; brothers: William Stanek, Earl Stanek, John (Jackie) Stanek; sister, Hildegarde “Hilda” Stern, and many other beloved relatives and friends. Lowell is survived by his children: Ellen (James) Gruhot of St. Peter, MN and Richard (Shelly) Stanek of Alexandria, MN; granddaughters: Dacotah (Josh) Evavold, Tianna Stanek, and Tessa Stanek.
Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements for Lowell.
