Typically, a county fair 4-H show would be the last place one would find a youngster like Clara Buyck.
That might sound odd, given the Buyck family’s long history with the Amiret Busy Bees and its proclivity for farming and livestock, but Clara — one of four Buyck kids involved with 4-H — would have a legitimate reason for staying away from the animal barns.
“I’m allergic to the cows,” Clara said Saturday at the Lyon County Fair while examining her right arm speckled by a clearly visible rash. “Every single thing on this campus I’m allergic to. But when you do what you love, you’ve gotta push through.”
Clara, 13, has been showing for eight years and said she enjoys the intensity that comes with showing at county fairs.
