
Shirley Thompson, age 79, of Marshall and formerly of Tracy, Minnesota, died on Monday, February 3, 2025, at her home in Marshall. Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery.
Shirley Ann Gravley was born on March 9, 1945, in Rake, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert and Hazel Nelson Gravley. She grew up in Spicer, Minnesota, before again moving South with her family. Shirley graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1963. Shortly thereafter she met Mr. Ronald Thompson.
Shirley and Ronald were united in marriage on August 12, 1965, at the Russell Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Tracy, Minnesota, and raised a daughter, Jodi. Shirley began work at Carrow’s Cleaners and then eventually moved over to the Tracy Bakery and worked there many years before her retirement when the bakery closed its doors. She spent over 36 years of marriage together with Ronald prior to his death in 2001. In 2020, Shirley moved into her current apartment in Marshall.
Shirley’s enjoyments in life included spending time with her family – particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a strong faith in the Lord and often could be found enjoying a game of Bingo.
Shirley died at her home on Monday, February 3, 2025, in Marshall, Minnesota. She reached the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 15 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodi (and Gary) Gunderson of Grand Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Kayla Wood, Devin Wood, Chelsea Wood (and Brett Brascom), Nathan (and Megan) Thorbjorn, Katelyn (and Nick) Barnes, Madeline Wood; 2 great-grandchildren, Asher Wood, Tyrnen Thorbjorn; 4 siblings, Duane “Dewey” Gravley of Russell, LeRoy (and Sharon) Gravley of Ruthton, Sharon Stenerson of Tyler, Beverly (and Norvin) Viergutz of Green Valley: nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Hazel Gravley; husband, Ronald Thompson; and siblings, Mavis Gravley, Marshall Gravley, and Dennis Gravley.
