Esports competition at Tracy Area High School began in the spring of 2023, and the program has proven to be a popular one. And this past weekend, the current Esports team competed at the state level at St. Cloud State University.

While the club didn’t finish very high in the final rankings, the experience nonetheless was a positive one for the five youth who made the trip.

“We had one team that first year playing in Minecraft, the second year we had two teams of two in Minecraft and a team for Fortnite, and this winter season, we had a team of four for Minecraft, a team of two for Fortnight and a team of two for Mario Kart,” said TAHS Esports advisor Craig Poklow.

Minecraft, Fortnite, Mario Kart — no, these are not your father’s games. Then again, Esports is about far more than playing games.
