Rod Wilkison can remember the feeling to this day when he heard his first- and second-grade teacher at Garvin Elementary School, Ms. Dahltorp, walking down the hallway of the two-story school, her old-fashioned trademark spiked shoes clicking sometimes angrily against the hardwood floors.
“She would click down the hallway … we would just cringe,” said Wilkison, who was among a large contingent of Garvin graduates who gathered in Garvin Park last Wednesday for an all-school reunion. “I hated that noise. Teachers really ruled the roost when you got out of line. They really straightened you out.”
