Doris Esther (Malmberg) Vadla was born to Harry T. and Esther (Bloom) Malmberg, March 28, 1929 on a farm near Concord, Nebraska. An excellent student, she skipped a grade in elementary school and graduated salutatorian of her high school class. Attending college at Wayne State followed by classes at the University of Nebraska, she earned a degree in Dietetics and worked as a hospital dietician in Portland, Oregon, Niagara Falls, New York, and Cleveland, Ohio. As a stay-at-home mom, she continued to share her knowledge by teaching adult education gourmet cooking classes. In later years, she put her skill with numbers to use as a bookkeeper for Clark Oil and as a payroll clerk for the Parma Board of Education. After retirement, she volunteered through AARP preparing taxes for seniors and providing reception support in the surgery center at Parma Hospital. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Scrabble, as well as sewing, quilting, knitting and gardening.
Doris died peacefully at home, being cared for by her children with the assistance of hospice, on April 10, 2017. She is survived by her son, Jon Eric Vadla of Flower Mound, TX (wife Elisa, sons Lance and Brent) and daughter, Karen Anne Malmberg of Walnut Grove, MN (husband Jim, daughter Christina Izquierdo of Marshall, son Stephen Izquierdo of Tracy, step-daughter Elizabeth (husband Matt) Schreier of Currie, step-son Daniel (wife Raechel) Malmberg of Sioux Falls), 4 great-grandchildren (Evelyn and Cora Malmberg, Ada Schreier, and Mia Izquierdo), sister-in-law Willadene, beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Art Malmberg and wife Louise of Walnut Grove, MN, Marjorie Carpenter and husband Gordon of Hawarden, IA, Arvid Malmberg of Wayne, NE, and nephew John Malmberg of Allen, NE.
Her family invited neighbors and friends to join them in celebrating her life with a light meal, photos, stories and a brief prayer service in the dining hall of Hill Street Place in Marshall on Thursday, April 13th, at 5:00 pm.
