Susan Kay (Torkelson) Visker was born on February 7, 1960, to Donald J. and Marian (Weiland) Torkelson, in Windom, Minnesota.  As a lifetime resident of Windom, Sue was baptized on April 3, 1960, at First United Methodist Church in Windom and was later confirmed at the church in the spring of 1974.  Sue graduated from Windom High School and continued her post-secondary education at Southwest State University, where she studied hotel and restaurant management.

On August 23, 1980, Susan was united in marriage to Ronald Visker at the First United Methodist Church.  The marriage was blessed with four children, Robert, Ryan, Missy, and Nyah.  As a farm wife for 44 years, Sue actively helped on the farm with tillage and combining from 1980-1998, and in the early 90s, Sue and Ron were recognized as the Cottonwood County Farm of the Year.

She then worked at Cottonwood County Family Services in Windom, which later became Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services, where she was a Case-Aide Worker/Money Manager for over 20 years and retired in 2021.  In 2013, Sue was recognized with the “Outstanding Staff Achievement” award from the MN Social Service Association.  Through the years she was also employed as a Cottonwood County 4-H Coordinator, Windom Public School bus driver for the handicap bus, and MN Extension.

Sue was active in her church and community, serving as a Sunday School teacher, 4-H Leader for the Great Bend Peppy Pals, and was a member of the Women’s Legion Auxiliary.  Sue was a “2nd Mom” to many as a Foster Mom for 10 years, she helped manage Tork’s Café as a teenager and through her young adult years, and she enjoyed helping her sister, Sally, at Farm Bureau answering phones and talking with people.  Sue enjoyed handiwork and crocheted many blankets and sewed clothing.  She loved watching her kids and grandkids sports and activities, and she was an avid cook and baker.

On March 1, 2024, Sue was called home to Heaven.  She passed away peacefully at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
