Einer Wayne Mattson, 94, of Maplewood, MN, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023. Born on August 2, 1929, in Murray County, Minnesota, Einer lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Einer was predeceased by his cherished wife, Beverly Mattson, and his siblings, Alden Mattson, Marvin Mattson, and Eleanor Nelson. His memory will be lovingly preserved by his daughters Deb Fort (Earl), Marlys Engebretson (David), and Lu Riester (Tom); his grandchildren Britt Biddle (Simeon), Samantha Engebretson (James Galipeau), Laura Engebretson (Zach Van Harris), and Bill Riester; his great-grandchildren Kellan, Isla, Etta, and Porter Biddle; as well as his sister Evy Keena and sister-in-law Mary Mattson.
Throughout his life, Einer was the respected owner of Mattson’s Market, where he served the community with integrity and a friendly smile. His civic engagement included valued service with the Balaton Fire and Ambulance Squad, the Balaton Sportsmen Club, the Lions Club, and the Tyler Golf Club. Einer also spent many joyful hours on the golf course, fishing by the lake, and in his workshop perfecting his woodworking crafts.
A steadfast member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Einer lived his faith through action and service. His commitment to his church and community will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
A service to honor Einer’s life will be held at 11:00 am on April 20, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Balaton Area History Center in Einer’s memory.
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Einer Mattson, a pillar of his community, a friend to many, and a beloved family man. May he rest in eternal peace.
